Seminar on ‘Inter-religious Cooperation for Nation Building’

The National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH) organized a Seminar on ‘Inter-religious Cooperation for Nation Building’ on 20th January 2014 in the Conference Room of the National Commission for Minorities, New Delhi.

In his introductory remarks, Amb. Ashok Sajjanhar spoke on the current situation in the country and emphasized the need for taking concrete steps to promote communal harmony and national integration. He spoke about the glowing record of the country where all religions have lived in peace and harmony with each other for several millenia. He said that communal violence and disturbances are a recent phenomenon in the country which can be effectively dealt with through greater emphasis on promoting understanding and appreciation of essential contents of different religions.

Key note address was delivered by Swami Sachidananda Bharathi, a former Indian Air Force Officer & Founder, Dharma Bharathi Mission and a well known and respected spiritual leader. Swamiji stated that moral and spiritual values in the society are nurtured and nourished best by religion and inter-religious understanding and cooperation are essential pre-requisites for nation building. Therefore, religions need to join hands. This is possible, if religions themselves are morally and spiritually awakened and revitalized. There has to be a comprehensive action plan for spiritual regeneration of India by setting-up of a network of ‘National Eco-Spiritual Parks’ to promote ecological health and spiritual unity of the country.

The seminar was also addressed by eminent personalities including Air Chief Marshal N.C. Suri; Prof. Haribhau Kedar, Director General, Dharma Bharathi National Institute of Peace & Value Education (DBNI); Dr. Archana Pande, Principal, City Montessori School, Lucknow; Prof. Md. Aslam Islahi, JNU; Prof. Susheela Bhan, Director, Institute of Peace Research & Action, Delhi; Ms. Usha Kumar, Gen. Secretary, Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan; Dr. S.N. Subba Rao, Director, National Youth Project; Dr. M.M. Verma, Interfaith Foundation, Dr. K.G. Suresh, Director, Global Foundation for Civilizational Harmony and others. The programme was conducted by Amb. Ashok Sajjanhar, Secretary, NFCH who also delivered opening and concluding remarks.

All speakers provided insightful views on the subject. The consensus view among all participants was that all religions must come together and cooperate with each other to promote peace and communal harmony which will help in the nation building process.
